Local Authorities
We offer the following services to local authorities:
- Advocacy at rights of way public inquiries – both for definitive map modification orders and public path orders.
- Case submission to the Planning Inspectorate.
- Expert witness work for inquiry and court, including investigation of the status of roads.
- Investigation of Modification Order applications and other definitive map casework
- Support for trainee staff and maternity leave cover, cover for long term staff sickness.
- Training for staff, members and volunteers.
Sue Rumfitt Associates is an established independent practice, which has worked with local authorities for over 26 years. Principal consultant Sue Rumfitt comes from a local authority background having worked for both district and county councils and we have a clear understanding of the needs of local authorities in rights of way work.
Examples of the work we have successfully completed include:
- Definitive map modification order case work for amongst others London Borough of Bromley, Rutland Council and Cambridgeshire County Council.
- Expert witness work for court proceedings for Cambridgeshire County Council and at inquiries for Cheshire West and Chester and Wokingham Borough Councils.
- Advocacy at public inquiries for local authorities including: Cambridgeshire County Council (including a Public Path Creation Order), Mid Bedfordshire District Council (Town and Country Planning Act Order for a controversial major development), and City of York Council (a School Security Order).
- Advice on variation orders leading to the successful completion of a Highways Act Variation Order for Ashford District Council.
- Advice on rail crossing diversion and extinguishment orders for Bedford Borough Council.
